Stella M. Laffoon, 74, of Evansville, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021. She was born on April 7, 1946 in Morganfield, Kentucky to Charles and Louise (Byrd) Roland.
She graduated from St. Vincent Academy, in St. Vincent Kentucky, in 1964. Stella worked at the Evansville State Hospital, in both the old and new building, from 1971 to 2005. She started as a nursing assistant and then became a QMA. Stella was one of four people to be involved in the community integration program. She was a member of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees while at the Evansville State Hospital and was a member of the civil defense. She volunteered her time at the Phantom Theater, the Christian Life Center and provided Thanksgiving dinner to those in need. Stella bowled at Diamond Lanes every Friday with a league from the State Hospital. She also went to Hacienda every other Wednesday because it was pay day!! Stella enjoyed playing softball, archery and camping with her friends at Scales Lake, boating and country line dancing. She loved gardening and canned her own homegrown vegetables. Stella was a generous gift giver and loved spoiling her granddaughter.
Stella was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Charlotte Market and Florence Glazebrook; and nephew, Dwayne Market.
She is survived by her daughter, Robine M. Elleser (Gregg); granddaughter, Eme Monae Elleser; sisters, Ed Marie Stansberry and Mary Gail McCluskey; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 22, 2021 at Alexander East Chapel with Father Freddie Byrd officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Ann Catholic Parish Cemetery. Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
