Stanley Carr "Teen" Burleson, age 85, of Floydada, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023 in Lubbock. A Memorial Service will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2023 at the Floyd County Memorial Park in Floydada. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.
Born Stanley Carr Burleson on August 3, 1937 in Floydada to W.E. and Mollie Burleson. Nicknamed "Teen" because of his teeny size. He attended Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell, Oklahoma where he met the love his life. He married Lou Jean Belew on November 28, 1958. He lived his entire life in Floyd and Motley counties farming until the mid-90's in the Cedar Hill community. He was a lifelong rancher and continued to ranch off the Caprock until his death. He loved cattle and his heritage continuing to raise the Spotted Hereford breed developed by his father and grandfather. In 2000, he accepted an award given by the State of Texas from the Commissioner of Agriculture for the family's ranch being under same ownership for 100 years.
Following the death of his son Dusty in 1983, he and his family began hosting the Burleson Memorial Roping at the ranch near Flomot with the proceeds being sent to Clarendon College Ranch Management program in Dusty's memory. Many local youth honed their horsemanship skills at the playdays and roping for 20 years.
Teen loved watching steer ropings with his side kick, Fish Wilson. He was made an honorary member of the Invitational Steer Ropers Association and was the last living Honorary Member of the Happy Rodeo Association.
Teen was preceded in death by his parents, W.E. and Mollie Burleson, his wife, Lou Jean Burleson and his son, David Erin "Dusty" Burleson.
He is survived by his daughters; Carrla Jean Jones (Steve) and Beverly Sue Brock (Kirk) all of Levelland, his grandchildren; Kolt Brock, Kwail Brock and Klay Brock all of Lubbock and Tye Jones (Julie) of Spring, TX, Caycee Jones Taylor (Matt) and Cyanne Jones of Lubbock, his great-grandchildren; Brittan Brock, Sterling, Lyncoln and Brock Taylor, Elodie and Harrison Jones and his sister Marisue Burleson Potts.
Honorary Pallbearers will be son-in-laws, Kirk Brock and Steve Jones; grandsons Kolt Brock, Kwail Brock, Klay Brock, Tye Jones and Matt Taylor; great-grandsons, Brock Taylor and Harrison Jones.
