Mr. Spenser Parnell Sumner, 23, of Cave Spring, died Wednesday, April 7, 2021 in a Chattanooga hospital from injuries sustained in an ATV accident a few days earlier.
Mr. Sumner was born in Krasnodor, Russia on July 7, 1997 and came to live in America with his parents Dr. Randolph Sumner and Dr. Susan Butler Sumner. He grew up in Cave Spring, and attended Cave Spring Elementary, Berry Elementary, Unity Christian School, and was a graduate of the Coosa High School. He attended the Chattahoochee Technical College and was employed by the IBEW Local 613. Mr. Sumner had attended the West Rome Baptist Church and was a member of the Second Avenue Baptist Church.
Known for his big, infectious smile, Mr. Sumner touched many lives and enjoyed the outdoors and farm life in the country. In school, he played football and basketball. He loved his friends and off road vehicles. He had studied farming and raising livestock, and was president of the Sumner Cattle Farm.
Mr. Sumner was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Corn and Bill Butler of Lafayette and Jack and Meredith Butler of Hawkinsville.
Survivors include his parents, Dr. Randolph Sumner and Dr. Susan Butler Sumner of Cave Spring; three brothers, Aaron Sumner (Brooke) of Savannah, Nathan Sumner (Leslie) of Grand Blanc, Michigan, and Lawson Sumner of Atlanta; and four sisters, Allison Landers of Raleigh, N.C., Mimi Luce (Matt) of St. Simmons, Esther Sumner of Rome, and Scarlett Sumner of Athens. His paternal grandparents, Roger and Mary Ruth Sumner of Rome, a number of nieces and nephews, and special friends Trey Rogers, Lex Rittenhouse, Bobby Spriggs, Debra Williamon, Danette (Nanny) Edwards and Reatha Dempsey also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Sumner will be held Saturday at 2:30 P.M. at the Second Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Harry Roland officiating. Entombment will follow in the Myrtle Hill Mausoleum. Pallbearers will include Aaron Sumner, Nathan Sumner, Lawson Sumner, Trey Rogers, Randy Spriggs, Bobby Spriggs, and Lex Rittenhouse.
The family will receive friends at John House's Cave Spring Chapel Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Show Hope Adoption Aid, and their website is fundraise.showhope.org. Be sure to designate that memorials are made in Spenser Sumner's name.
