Solange Morin (Patenaude) died January 3, 2021 at the Arbors of Amherst Assisted Living Facility at the age of 100 due to complications from Covid-19. Born in Irasburg, Vermont on September 25, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Patenaude and Celindy Patenaude (Desmaris).
Solange was a long time Northampton resident growing up in the Baystate section of the city. She was a communicant of the former Blessed Sacrament Church, now St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. She was predeceased by her parents, five brothers: Roland, Alvin, Marshall, Gerard, Maurice and their wives along with her husband Robert A. Morin, the love of her life. She leaves behind her son Dennis C. Morin and his wife Dawn B. Otello-Morin of West Hatfield, along with a grandson Dennis C. Morin Jr. (DJ) and his wife Dr. Melissa Marques Morin of Hadley. In addition she leaves a great grandson, Leo, and a great granddaughter, Avida, and several nieces and nephews.
Solange attended local schools and was a class of 1939 graduate of Northampton High School. After graduation , she worked as a store clerk at Kresky's Department Store in downtown Northampton. After the birth of her son she became a homemaker and worked part time as a seamstress out of her home.
She and her husband had a large garden from which they canned and froze produce that fed the family throughout the year. Fantastic homemade soups and casseroles resulted from the garden. Making braided rugs, large and small, out of woolen clothing scraps was one of her favorite pastimes. She also liked to fish for trout in the fast flowing trout streams of the Berkshire Hilltowns. Spending time at ocean beaches in New Hampshire and Maine were also happy times for her.
The family is grateful for the excellent compassionate care given to her by the staff at Cooley-Dickinson Hospital, Hospice at Fisher Home and the Arbors Assisted Living Facility at Amherst.
She will be sadly missed by her family. There will be no public services. The Ahearn Funeral Home, Bridge Rd. Northampton is in charge of arrangements. A funeral Mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (Annunciation) Chapel and burial in St. Mary's Cemetery will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer's Association 225 N. Michigan Ave. Fl 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
