Sister Charlotte Ann Fortier (formerly Sister M. Mildred), 93, a Sister of Mercy for 72 years, died December 16, 2020, at Warde Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, after a period of declining health. A native of Exeter, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of Arthur and Annie (Denoncour) Fortier.
Sister Charlotte Ann received a diploma in business from McIntosh Business College in Haverhill, Massachusetts, and a B.A. degree in education from Mount St. Mary College in Hooksett, New Hampshire.
She was a teacher for many years in Catholic schools throughout New Hampshire. She taught at Mount St. Mary Day School, Blessed Sacrament, St. Augustine, and both St. Joseph Elementary and St. Joseph Junior High School, all in Manchester. She also taught at Holy Trinity in Somersworth; St. Mary in Dover; Sacred Heart in Nashua; St. John in Laconia; St. Mary in Claremont; St. Patrick in Berlin; St. Rose of Lima in Littleton; and St. Thomas Aquinas in Derry. Sister Charlotte Ann also served as administrative assistant to the director of Marian Court Secretarial School in Swampscott, Massachusetts, and was parish secretary at St. Anne Parish in Manchester, New Hampshire. For many years she was the receptionist at the Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse in Windham.
Sister Charlotte Ann is survived by members of her Mercy Community, her sister Beverly Hamilton, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Arthur Fortier, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 21, 2020, at 10 a.m., at St. Matthew Church, 2 Searles Road, Windham, New Hampshire. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Bedford, NH.
