Simone Chambers Vitkus entered into eternal rest on February 3, 2021 at CT Hospice after a long illness. Born in Smyrna, Maine, November 10, 1937 to Whitney and Opal (Condon) Chambers, Simone raised her family in Wallingford. She is survived by daughter Opal (David) Berardesca, son Craig (Lori) Worcester, and daughter Melissa Horsfall (Dawn Way). She leaves her grandchildren Natalie (Rosie) Berardesca, Christopher Horsfall, Jessica Lary, Joji Fillmore, Alani (Amanda) Schaperow, and Kerry Schaperow, 10 great-grandchildren, her brother Terry Chambers, and many nieces and nephews. Simone was predeceased by her beloved sons, Gordon and Mark, and her sister, Jeanette. She was a parishioner of Heritage Baptist Church in New Haven. Simone was an independent, strong, hardworking woman. She was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need even when her needs were greater. She lovingly spent countless hours knitting baby hats for newborns at Yale. In addition to knitting she enjoyed cooking, shopping, bocce, puzzles, and was always ready for a game of Scrabble or setback. Above all, she loved spending time with her family. Our family would like to thank CT Hospice and the many health care workers who were part of our mother's courageous journey.
