Simon Robert "Bob" Walters, age 74 of Valparaiso, IN passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022. He was born on December 6, 1947 in Gary, IN to Simon and Eileen (Schiess) Walters.
Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth (Sams) Walters; daughter, Tonya (Rick Smith) Deiotte; son, Robert (Penelope) Walters; grandchildren, Hannah and Ethan; sisters, Kathy (Charlie) Heckman, Linda (Dave Knocke) Koclowski, Peggie Walters, Beth (Tony) Ramsey; and brother, Ray (Regi) Walters. He was preceded in death by his father, Simon Walters; mother, Eileen Walters; and sister, Maurine Starr.
Bob was an avid big game hunter for many years. He loved old cars and collected many of his own over the years. Bob enjoyed going to car shows with his friends. He enjoyed driving and road trips, in which he and Ruth traveled to all 50 states. Bob volunteered for the Salvation Army as a bell ringer and drove for the American Red Cross. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His family was his passion. Bob will truly be missed.
A celebration of life service will be held on July 20, 2022, at 12:00 pm at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304. A gathering of friends will be from 11:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. A luncheon will be held following services at 1:00 pm at Gelsosomo’s Pizzeria, 371 Indian Boundary Rd., Chesterton, IN 46304. All are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's honor may be made to the Colon Cancer Coalition, 5666 Lincoln Drive, Suite 270, Edina, MN 55436.
