101 year old Sibyl L. Gaines, widow of Charles H. Gaines died July 1, 2022 at her home in Lexington, KY. She was the first daughter of the late Paul and Marie Spicer Lucas of Owenton, KY. She is survived by a daughter, Cathy, two grandsons, Chad and Marc, and a great granddaughter, Chloe. She was married 68 years to "Charley," a high school sweetheart and WWII veteran. A graduate of Owen County High, she was employed by People's Bank, Davis-Gaines Garage, and Farmer's Bank of Owenton. Moving to Lexington in mid 1950's, she worked as a bookkeeper in Citizens Union Bank and thereafter in the Trust Depart. She was an active member of Owenton Baptist and Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington. She enjoyed art; her Beechwood Tree design was chosen as the model for the Beechwood School class ring. Later, 8 years into marriage, her submitted design factored into an invitation to join an art school in Chicago. She turned that down in favor of her already established roles of wife and mother, though both child & husband encouraged her to pursue that opportunity. However, she continued to do numerous art projects throughout her life.
