Mrs. Shirley Kay (O'Bryant) Stotts, Fairland, went home to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at the IU Health Simon Cancer Center. She was 74. Shirley was born July 4, 1946 the only child of Carl E. and Esther E. (Kline) O'Bryant.
Shirley was born in Anderson, Indiana and spent her childhood years there until going to college. She was a graduate of Anderson High School as well as the University of Indianapolis where she earned her Masters degree in Education.
Shirley was a teacher with the Decatur County Community Schools in Greensburg for 49 years before retiring in 2016. She taught English for many years particularly at North Decatur High School where she won numerous awards for her teaching excellence. She was the yearbook editor, headed the Spell Bowl team and school newspaper for many years. She was a member of the Fairland Baptist Temple in Fairland, Indiana where she served as pianist and soloist. She also assisted with tape, DVD and newsletter ministry. She also enjoyed reading her Bible. Shirley deeply loved her family and spending time with them at family gatherings. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially to Tennessee and holding his hand whenever they were together.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 44 years, James A. Stotts; her children, Rick (Cindy) Stotts and Rita (Ron) Harrison; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in passing by her parents.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm, Monday, March 1, 2021 in the Meyer Chapel at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood with Pastor Thomas Chestnut officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at 10:00am Tuesday at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
For those choosing to make a memorial contribution, the family has suggested those be offered to the Fairland Baptist Temple with envelopes available at the funeral home.
The safety of our families and guests is of our utmost priority. We ask that facial coverings be worn and social distancing be practiced. We respectfully ask that if you are feeling any symptom of illness, please do not attend. Also, in keeping with the Governor's mandate, attendance will be limited to 50 people.
