Shirley A. Rowland , 84 Oct 2, 1936 - Feb 6, 2021 Shirley Ann (Hoover) Rowland, 84, went home to be with her Savior on Saturday, February 6, 2021. Born on Friday, October 2, 1936 in Hagerstown, she is the daughter of the late Charles E. Hoover, Sr., and Nellie D. (Marshall) Hoover. She graduated in 1954 from the Hagerstown High School. She was a homemaker, and she taught Sunday school at Grace Brethren Church in Hagerstown, MD for 23 years. later, she was a faithful member of Wayside Baptist Church in Leitersburg, MD where she sang in the church choir. Shirley had a GREAT LOVE for the WORD of GOD, music, reading and poetry. She also enjoyed sending notes and letters of encouragement and visiting the elderly at area nursing homes. Her son, Clinton O. Rowland, IV, daughter Cynthia O. (Rowland) Nelson and husband, John, two grandsons, Jason M. Rowland and Christopher S. Rowland; and two great grandsons, Christopher S. Rowland, Jr., and Ashton J. Rowland; along with nieces, nephews, and cousins survive her. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Clinton O. Rowland, III; brothers Charles E. Hoover, Jr., Kenneth M. Hoover, Robert L. Hoover, and sister Mary Louise (Hoover) Martin; a grandson Jeffrey A. Rowland, and a niece, Barbara (Martin) Warden, who was raised in the home of Shirley's parents. There will be no visitation or viewing. Burial will take place in Rest Haven Cemetery at the convenience of the family with Pastor Jeremy Kitchen officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Harman Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac Street, Hagerstown. In Shirley's memory, please make donations to Wayside Baptist Church, 213-3 Leiter Street, Hagerstown, MD 21742. The family wishes to thank ALL of Shirley's Church family, doctors, nurses and staff at Julia Manor, and friends who visited with her and gave her joy.
