Shirley Brewer Rochester, 87, was reunited with her husband and began her new life in Heaven on Monday, May 8, 2023. She was born on July 11, 1935, in Okolona, MS to the late Elgie Brewer and Opal Sullivan Brewer Jones.
Shirley grew up in Monroe County and graduated from Aberdeen High School. On August 10, 1955, she married the love of her life, James "Jim" Rochester, Jr. and together they were blessed with a wonderful family. She was an entrepreneur and was self-employed for many years at her clothing store, Shirley's Fashions which was located on Main Street in Amory, MS. Shirley was a strong, independent woman who cared deeply about her family.
She believed in the Lord and was a longtime member of Meadowood Baptist Church in Amory. She loved to listen to Gospel music and read. She was passionate about children's ministries and children learning about the love of Jesus. One of her close friends was Cookie Saylor, they talked every day, and they had been friends since she was a child. Some of her other friends were Carolyn Knight, Judy Doster.
Her family is so grateful for all the years of wisdom and guidance that Shirley gave them. All the great memories made will be cherished forever.
She is survived by son, Chris Rochester, Jacksonville, FL; daughters, Beverly Goheen, Berhoud, CO, Connie Smith, Like Oak, FL, and Donna Houston, Saltillo, MS; grandchildren, Michelle Goheen, Matt Goheen, Brandon Fowlkes, Ryan Fowlkes, Jenny Houston, and Sam Houston; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Ramos, Austin Goheen, Drae Richardson, Brylynne Alexander, Jace Fowlkes, Naomi Fowlkes, and Alyssa Woods; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Juanita Robinson, and Martha Owens; and brother, Danny Brewer; special friend, Cookie Saylor; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Rochester, Jr., and a son, James Rochester, III.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 1:00 pm at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, MS with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home in Amory from 11:00 am until the service hour.
