Shirley (Naples) Perfido, 89, of Newington, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Perfido, with whom she shared 49 years of marriage.
Born in New Britain, Shirley was the daughter of the late Angelo and Nellie (Borselle) Naples. She moved to Newington in 1968, where she made her home and became an active and cherished member of the community. She was a devoted parishioner of the Church of the Holy Spirit and a longtime member of the Newington Senior Center.
Shirley began her career in the 1950s as a secretary for Naples Plumbing and Heating, her father's business. In the 1960s, she went on to work for the State of Connecticut Labor Department, Unemployment Compensation Division, where she was employed for many years. She took great pride in her work and often spoke fondly of her experiences at "the Labor Department" well into her later years. She later worked at Jefferson House in Newington, where she remained until her retirement in 2000.
Shirley enjoyed music, reading, crafts, word puzzles, and attending Broadway plays. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family. Sundays were especially meaningful to her and were reserved for family visits.
She leaves behind her two beloved daughters, Lori Ryan and her husband Bill of South Windsor, CT, and Lisa Olandt and her husband Rob of Newington, CT. Her daughters were her pride and joy. She is also survived by her adored grandchildren, Joseph and Ethan Olandt, and Gabrielle and William Ryan, whom she cherished deeply and loved spending time with.
Shirley is also survived by her sister, Judy Tully and her husband Eddy, and her sister-in-law, Carol Naples. She was predeceased by her brothers, William, Angelo, and Richard Naples, and her sisters, Orsalina Badolato, Janice Salvadori, and Michelina Muraca.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, December 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Avenue, Newington. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington.
