Shirley McGuire (86) passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus at Wellmore of Tega Cay on March 4, 2021. She was born in Greenup, Kentucky, on February 8, 1935, daughter of Lewis McCubbin and Dorothy Callihan McCubbin. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Haden T. McGuire, to whom she was married for 61 wonderful years. She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Ann McGuire Parker (husband Derek Parker), granddaughter Dr. Jennifer Anne Parker Mietla (husband, Daniel) grandson Stephen Alan Parker (wife, Laura Lee), great grandsons Hudson Luke Parker and James Michael Mietla, and many friends to cherish her memory. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Shirley was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She wanted nothing more than to spend time with her family, and she had a smile for everyone she met. Shirley was a strong Christian woman who lived her life longing to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ. She exemplified Him everywhere she went by always trying to make life better for others. She was a long-time member of Westview Christian Church and attended Lakeshore Christian Fellowship for the last several years after moving from Charlotte to Fort Mill, SC, to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Shirley was born deaf and worked hard to overcome many obstacles in her life, including learning to speak and read lips so she could be successful in school where she enjoyed being part of the community. She graduated from Greenup High School, where she was captain of the cheerleading squad, basketball queen, and captain of the rifle team. After graduation, she went on to attend the University of Kentucky. Shirley was a remarkable woman who didn't let anything hold her back. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and traveling extensively around the world. Still, she missed out on things, but she is in Heaven now where she can enjoy being whole and perfect, hear all the birds chirping and the music playing, and dance with the angels.
She lived the last three years of her life at Wellmore of Tega Cay, where she was loved and cherished by the staff and other residents. It was her goal to bring a smile to their faces anytime she saw them. She sat close to the front door early every morning where she could see them and greet them with a warm good morning as they came to work. She made many close friends at Wellmore. The family wishes to thank the staff for the love and care they freely offered. They became like extended family and are deeply loved by the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to SOZO Restoration Ministries or the Lakeshore Christian Fellowship Missions Fund.
McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park is honored to be entrusted with the care of Mrs. McGuire and her family. Condolences may be sent to the family online at http://www.mcewenfs.com.
