Shirley Williams Harris

Shirley Williams Harris, 89, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Aubrey Spear and Rev. Marty Warren. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Harris, daughter of the late Elmer Jackson Williams and Myrtle Louise Horton Tripp, was a native and lifelong resident of Pitt County. She had made her home in the Black Jack community since 1965. She was employed as a Teacher's Assistant at Agnes Fullilove, South Greenville, and Elmhurst Elementary Schools, retiring after 25 years of service. Mrs. Harris was a longtime member of Hopewell Pentecostal Holiness Church. She enjoyed cooking for her family, reading, sewing, and embroidery work that she often gave as gifts. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband, John Harvey Harris, Sr., son, Gary Crawford Harris, grandson, Michael L. Mahany, and sisters, Jackie Heath and Corrinne Tillman. Mother-in-law, Mae Bell Stocks; brothers-in-law, Carl Harris Sr., Jay Harris and Charles Harris. She is survived by daughters, Sheryl H. Waters (Larry) of Grifton; and Teresa H. Mahany (Mike) of Black Jack; sons, John Harvey Harris, Jr. of Greenville, and Ron Harris, Sr. of Black Jack; grandchildren, Angela Coggins (Gary), Chad Cannon, Brandon Mahany, Heather Futrell (Jacob), Ron Harris, Jr., Michael Harris (Courtney) and Bridget Harris; great grandchildren, Emily Britt, Allison Velazquez, Greysen Mahany, Brayden and Ethan Mahany; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Cox; sisters-in-law, Mae Smith and Mildred Harris.
