Shirley Johnson Bolf went to be with her Lord, whom she had loved and served since she was saved at the age of ll, on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 in Crane, TX. She was born on May 7, 1934 in Portales, NM (the Land of Enchantment) to Mary Lee and O.E. Jack Johnson. She married James Bolf on May 29, 1959 and they shared 46 wonderful years together until his passing on Nov. 14, 2005.
Shirley was an honor student at Portales High School. She was chosen with two other girls in the 9th grade to take drivers training and got her license at age 14. Shirley was in storytelling and won 1st place in the highest place of kids her age. Her story was the story of Joseph and his many colored coat. She was also in Sword Drill and choir. She joined choir in the 9th grade and sang in cantatas, solos, duets, trios, and at least 50 funerals. She was elected basketball queen and senior favorite, and president of the pep club. She had her appendix out the 1st Friday of school in her senior year and got letters from the entire class in shorthand. That was a real experience. She loved school and said she'd do it all over again. She attended ENMU for 2 years where she met James at the bowling lanes. She bowled with Portales Electric. They went to state in Roswell. She and her team came in 3rd place and won $30 so she always claimed to be a professional bowler.
Shirley was a loyal member of the First Baptist Church of Wink for 50 years and the First Baptist Church in Odessa, and it was one of the joys of her life. She worked at Wink Elementary as a secretary for 38 years until she retired. She loved her job and was a very hard worker. She enjoyed bowling, singing, shopping, and watching her Yankees play.
