BLUNK SHIRLEY ANN BLUNK (1930 – 2022) We are heartbroken to announce that Shirley Ann Blunk, 91, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2022, in her home in Vienna, Virginia. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many. As her friends and family know, Shirley's talents and hobbies were endless. She was a skilled pianist, church choir member, golfer, tennis player, bowler, mahjong player, and crafter. But perhaps her greatest passion was connecting with people. No matter who you were or where she met you, if you encountered Shirley, she would take a genuine interest in getting to know you. Shirley was born December 1, 1930, in Alexandria, Virginia. She and her sister Louise were raised primarily by her beloved grandparents, Robert and Alice Dye. Shirley worked at the Pentagon for 12 years, where she was loved and well-respected. She then became a devoted wife and mother, and finally a doting Nana. Shirley moved through the seasons of life with grace, elegance, and a sense of humor. Survivors include her daughters Kelly Phlegar and her husband Rick, Bonnie Townshend and her husband Scot, her son Scott Blunk and his wife Syndi, and her seven grandchildren including Jamie Louderback and her husband Chase, Taylor Averill and her husband Tim, Michael and Matthew Phlegar, Brooke and Paige Townshend, and Chelsi Robinson Blunk. Also surviving are her niece Paula Gossett and her husband Steve, her great nephew Ron Johnson, his wife Kim, and their son Connor, and her great nephew Kevin Johnson. A memorial service for Shirley will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Epiphany Church, located at 1014 Country Club Drive, Vienna, VA. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation and the Humane Society of Fairfax County, Inc.
