Church service for Sheriff Jorge De La Cruz, age 52, of Morton, Texas, is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 21, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Morton with Donnye Richardson of Morton and Kannen Richardson of Morton officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Monday, November 18, 2024 at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Morton Memorial Cemetery. Jorge died Tuesday, November 12, 2024 in Morton. He was born August 9, 1972 in Laredo, Texas to Jesus and San Juana (Hernandez) De La Cruz. He married Lynn Van Selus in Littlefield, Texas on January 23, 1993.
Jorge was the Cochran County Sheriff for seven years. He was a photography buff, and was Facebook famous. Jorge enjoyed collecting junk, and building things. He loved feedlots and his farm animals, especially his horse, Blackie Chan. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Red Wings, baseball and some football. Jorge loved to read and to learn. He had a documentary made about him in 2021. He enjoyed traveling and going on vacations, especially to Mexico with his friend, Steven. Jorge was a people person and liked to visit with others. He was very patriotic and loved the U.S.A. He is preceded in death by his father, Jesus De La Cruz.
Jorge is survived by his wife, Lynn; his two sons, J.J. De La Cruz of State College, Pennsylvania and Josue De La Cruz and his wife, Elizabeth of Lubbock, Texas; his two daughters, Courtney De La Cruz and her husband, Jose Lujan Jr. of Morton, Texas and Mallory De La Cruz of Morton, Texas; his mother, San Juana De La Cruz of Olton, Texas; his two sisters, Alfa De La Cruz of Olton, Texas and San Juana Ruben and her husband, James of Plainview, Texas; his six brothers, Antonio De La Cruz of Olton, Texas, Jesus De La Cruz of Olton, Texas, Arturo De La Cruz and his wife, Christy of Olton, Texas, Juan De La Cruz and his wife, Isabel of Olton, Texas, Mario De La Cruz of Olton, Texas and Felix De La Cruz of Olton, Texas; his four grandchildren, Junie B. Lujan, Anastasia "Penny" De La Cruz, Krislyn Belle Lomas and Daniel Rodriguez.
