Sheldon Tyrone Brooks, Sr., age 72, of Jacksonville, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024.
Sheldon (Shelly) Tyrone Brooks, Sr. was born March 20, 1952, to Clifton and Dorothy Brooks. He was educated in the Talbot County Public School System attending Frederick Douglass Elementary School and Moton High School. He graduated from St. Michaels High School in 1970.
He entered the Marines immediately following graduation and served his country as a Chef during his twenty-year tenure with the Marines and then as a chef on base at Camp LeJune, NC for another twenty years prior to retiring.
Sheldon was an avid bowler and traveled all over the United States bowling in numerous tournaments. This allowed him to meet and maintain friends across the country but most especially in his hometown of Jacksonville, NC. No matter where he went, someone knew him.
Sheldon passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024, at his home in Jacksonville, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Kitty) Keys Brooks, his parents Clifton and Dorothy Brooks, his brother Clifton Brooks, his sister Irish V. Brooks Stevens, and his brother Marion (Sonny) Brooks.
Sheldon's love and memories will remain in the hearts of his children, Angela Price (Andre) and Sheldon T. Brooks, Jr., both of Jacksonville, Curtis Keys of Oklahoma, Anthony Keys of California and Tina Williams of Pensacola, FL; sisters, Childlene Brooks and Virginia Brooks Jackson both of Wittman, 10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at New St. Johns U M Church, 9123 Tilghman Island Road, Wittman. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mid Shore Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, 9243 New Road, McDaniel, MD 21647 or online at midshorepancan.org.
