Sharon Owen May 6, 1947 - July 1, 2022 El Dorado, Kansas - Sharon Ann (Potter) Owen died at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas on July 1, 2022. She had just celebrated her 75th birthday and 55th wedding anniversary. Sharon was born on May 6, 1947 in Lamar, Missouri to Bert and Velma (Farthing) Potter, the oldest of two daughters. The family relocated to El Dorado when Sharon was five years old. On June 4, 1967, Sharon married Gary R. Owen. The couple have two children and three grandchildren. Sharon attended Wichita Business College after graduating from Rosalia High School. Over the years, she worked for Felts Oil Company, Coutts and Coutts Attorneys, the Register of Deeds Office in El Dorado, Green and Green Attorneys, and Potter Plumbing and Heating. She entered the education field in the 1990s as a Para and later as a Title I reading teacher at Lincoln Elementary in El Dorado. Upon retiring, Sharon continued to volunteer as a reader at Grandview Elementary in El Dorado and as a library aide at a local grade school in Trophy Club, Texas from 1998 to 2001. Sharon enjoyed playing golf with her mother, family vacations and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid K-State football fan, attending nearly every bowl game and held season tickets for almost 30 years. At church, Sharon sang in the choir, and over the years was a Sunday School and VBS teacher, served as a deaconess, and served on the music, finance and property committees at First Baptist Church in El Dorado. She was a volunteer with the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, serving for over 10 years at the front desk of Ambulatory Surgery Waiting and most recently at the front desk of the hospital. She was also the auxiliary board historian, a position she greatly enjoyed. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Debra. She is survived by her husband, children Kristina (Chuck) Haahr of El Dorado and Michael (Kristen) Owen of Hockley, Texas, grandson Isaac Haahr, El Dorado and granddaughters Isabelle Haahr, El Dorado and Mikala Owen, Hockley, Texas. Visitation with the family will be held at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home, 200 South Star Street, El Dorado, on Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 6-8pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at First Baptist Church in El Dorado, 315 West Central, on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 10am with a graveside service to follow at Walnut Valley Memorial Park, 725 Boyer Road, El Dorado, KS 67042. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
