Sharon Jean Suther Brumelle, age 75, passed away at her home on August 15, 2023. Sharon was born on May 9, 1948, in Lubbock, Texas to Mary and Lee Suther. She attended Crosbyton High School and Texas Tech University. Sharon met Kenneth Coy Brumelle, her future husband, at Texas Tech and they were married December 21, 1967. Sharon earned her bachelor's degree from the University of North Texas and her Master of Education from Lamar University. They settled in Odessa and their daughter, Jenni, was born in 1977. In the prime of her life, Sharon enjoyed playing the piano, singing in her church choir, delivering meals on wheels, and inspiring young minds as a teacher in the Ector County ISD, where she taught elementary school for almost 4 decades before her retirement.
Later in life, she could often be found at home, in her garden, or with glasses perched on her nose, working studiously on a word search or crossword puzzle while keeping one ear tuned to her television program. She loved spoiling her grandson and enjoyed a raucous game of launch the stuffed animal, sometimes resulting in broken messes and sheepish looks by both involved. Sharon had a servant's heart, loved the simple things in life, and was loved in return.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 53 years. She is survived by daughter Jenni Brumelle-Vu of Lubbock, TX; son-in-law Huan Vu and grandson Caius Vu both of Lubbock, TX; sister Brenda Barrett and spouse Robert Barrett of Seminole, TX; and brother Brent Suther and spouse Scott McLean of Minneapolis, MN.
Family and friends whose lives Sharon touched are invited to the graveside service in Crosbyton, Texas on Saturday, August 19 at 10 am. In remembrance of Sharon, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Adopt a Classroom.
