With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Shade Izayah Anthonee Staples, fondly known as Izayah or Zay, on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at his home in Wilson, North Carolina. Shade was born in Delano, California on November 11, 1997 to Taira Beyer and Shade Staples Sr. At the age of 8, Izayah moved to North Carolina where he was raised by his mother, Taira and his stepfather, Jason Gandarilla. He graduated from Overhills High School in 2015. While in high school, Izayah participated in JROTC. Growing up on Fort Bragg, and being surrounded by a family of military veterans helped foster his decision to serve in the military himself.
He enlisted in the United States Navy on October 5, 2017 as an Aviation Boatswain's Mate - Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ABE). He proudly served overseas and had a love for mechanical engineering. He turned 21 in Greece, and this helped establish his love of culture and traveling. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and playing video games with his siblings and best friends. He went golfing with his stepdad and grandfather any chance he got. Shade looked at the world from a different angle than most; he could always see both sides to the coin. His humor was unmatched. And for a very young man, he had a surprisingly "old soul". He was a brilliant, handsome young man who would so selflessly do anything for his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his great great grandmother, Elsie Parker, and his grandmother, Deborah Witcher. He is survived by his great grandparents, Irene and Robert Witcher, his grandfathers; David Witcher Sr., Gerald Beyer Sr., his grandmother Debbie Gandarilla, his mother Taira Gandarilla, his fathers; Shade Staples Sr., Jason Gandarilla and their wives; Holly Gandarilla and Maribel Staples, his siblings; Arielle Gandarilla, Jayden Jacks, Ryann Gandarilla, Julian Gandarilla, Isaiah Staples and his wife, Francis Pinedo, their two children Sammy and Zyra Staples, Malachi Staples, Shade Staples Jr., DeAngelo Staples, Hezekiah Staples, Sarai Staples, and his many aunts, uncles and cousins whom he was loved by so dearly.
Please join us in remembering Izayah, and celebrating his life. Services will be held on Tuesday, July 25th, at Adcock Funeral Home and Crematory in Spring Lake. The Visitation for family and friends will be from 12-1 PM with the funeral service starting at 1 PM. The Graveside service will follow at 2 PM at Sandhills State Veteran's Cemetery at 2PM.
