SGM Retired Robert E. Stroot, 89, from St. Michael, MN went to join his heavenly father on July 30, 2022. Bob was born in Euclid, MN was commonly known as Daddy, SGM or Uncle Bob. Dad proudly started his military career in the Army when he was 18 (1951). He served multiple tours in Korea & Vietnam in the Wolfehound & Airborne division, receiving many medals of honor for his bravery & service. After retiring from the Army Bob worked 47 years with Herc-U-Lift. Dad was an avid card and cribbage player, he would always be willing to play a game when asked. After dad joined AA, he had a love for travel. His route was never from point A to point B, he would zig zag across the country to enjoy the scenery because he loved this great country. Dad has visited every state capital and over 500 different Hooters restaurants. Dad was a life long fan of the MN Viking and Twins.
He is survived by his sister, Clarice Ellingson; 5 children, Gabriel Ellis, James Stroot (Rita), Sharon Oxendine (Glenn), Nancy Gillespie (David), Connie Cullen (Brian); 8 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank & Emma; brothers, Leo, Bernard, Walter, Jerome, Joseph, Francis, William (Billy), David; and sisters, Irene, Mary and Dorothy.
His memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 10th, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229. Livestream will be available on Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel's Facebook page.
