Severita G. Guerra, 74, entered eternal rest on August 13, 2022, in the comfort of her home with her family at her side. She was born to Guadalupe and Carolina Garcia on August 12, 1948, in Rio Grande City, Texas. Severita was guided by God and her deep faith and loved her family without measure. She was a doting wife and loving mother and grandmother. A devout Catholic she served the church in various capacities including as Eucharistic Minister and secretary for the Serra club for 19 years. With a desire to instill the value of education, she worked as an assistant librarian for 30 years at Rio Grande City CISD. She found great joy in her career and recently retired in 2020.
Severita is survived by her loving husband, Reymundo Guerra, and four daughters, Velma Guerrero, (Martin), Araceli Villanueva, (Joaquin), Veronica Kerns, (John), and Valerie Jimenez (Rolando). She was preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe & Carolina Garcia, brother, Ricardo Garcia, and husband, Jose Lazaro Lopez, Jr. She is also survived by her siblings Maria Guadalupe Garcia, and Lisandro Garcia (Olga) as well as nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to all family and friends who have shared in Severita's life through her joys and hardships. Your kind words and actions genuinely made an impact.
The visitation service will be on Thursday, August 18th from 12:00- 8:00 pm, the Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. The visitation service will also be on Friday, August 19th, from 8:00 to 9:45 am and the funeral mass will be at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City. Interment will follow at Rio Grande City Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City.
