Funeral Services for Sergeant Major Retired Leo Guest, age 84, will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Greater Galilee Baptist Church, 1428 SW Jefferson Street, Lawton with Reverend Clanton, Drummond, officiating.
Visitation will be 4 - 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Howard-Harris Funeral Services Chapel, 1005 SW "C" Avenue, Lawton.
SGM retired Leo Guest, transitioned from this life on Thursday, May 12, 2022, in Lawton. Burial with Military honors will be in Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under the direction of Howard-Harris Funeral Services. His awards include: Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with (1) Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation medal with (1) Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement medal, Good Conduct Medal (9th Award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with (1) Silver and (1) Bronze Service Stars, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Expert Badge Pistol, Marksman Badge Rifle, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Itation Badge with Palm, and the National Defense Service Medal with (1) Service Star.
SGM retired Leo Guest was born in Hugo, Oklahoma on January 10, 1938, to George and Alpha Lee (Robinson) Guest. On May 12, 2022, Leo quietly departed this life after a lengthy illness. He was baptized at an early age and became an active member of his family church. He was a member of the Pollard Avenue Baptist Church.
SGM retired Leo Guest graduated from Douglas High School and attended Cameron University. Leo joined the US Army after high school. During his many years in the Army, he served overseas in Vietnam and Germany. After over 30 years of service, Leo retired in Fort Hood, Texas. Leo was well respected by his staff and fellow colleagues. He later went on to work for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for over a decade and retired again. And as if that wasn't enough, Leo then began working for the Lawton Public School system. He enjoyed his work and was respected by his colleagues. Leo was also a member of the VFW.
SGM retired Leo Guest met and married his wife Melline (Jackson) Guest on April 8, 1968. They were married for 54 years. He was a faithful and loving husband and father. He was well respected by all who came to know him.
SGM retired Leo Guest was preceded in death by father, George Guest; his mother, Alpha Lee (Robinson) Guest, his brother John L. Guest, his sister Yvonne Floyd, and his grand-daughter, Mellina S. Donald. He leaves to morn his passing: his wife Melline Guest of Lawton; five children: Rev. Steven O. Webber of Tulsa, Angela R. Webber of Lawton, Primer D. Webber of Oklahoma City, Donna L. Webber of Lawton, and Sherry Guest-Donald of Houston; his siblings Willie G. Guest of Lawton, Ethel D. Ellis of Killeen, and Roy L. Guest of Lawton; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great great- grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.
