Much loved electrician, Brad D. Updike passed away in Aurora, Colorado on May 29, 2022. Brad was born in Boulder, Colorado and grew up in Nebraska. He attended Fremont Public School, graduating from Fremont High School in 1976. While living in Fremont, Brad was a member of the boy scouts and worked at Buena Vista and Lum's Restaurant. Brad moved to Denver in 1976 and was employed by Losaw Electric in 1978. He worked his way up to Vice President and was well respected in the electrical trade and building industry. John Verne McKenzie was born on December 24, 1928 on a small farm in Fremont, Nebraska. His father, who his mother later said was out working all day in the rain, had passed away the previous May from pneumonia, and Verne was raised by his single mother Maggie and his older sister Vera. Later a tornado destroyed the outbuildings on the rented farm (but spared the house they were in) and the family moved into town. Frederick D. Miles, 80, formerly of Fremont, NE passed away Friday, January 29th, 2021 at his home in Lee County, Georgia surrounded by his family. Mr. Miles was born on May 14th, 1940 to Albert and Helen Miles of Morrill, Nebraska. Fred lived in Fremont for most of his life and professionally drove truck for many of those years and then changed employment later working for Krasne Furniture until he retired in 2005.
