George Michael King, age 82 of Olsburg, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. He was born on July 1, 1942, in Rutland, Ohio, the son of Clyde Earl and Helen Mae (Musser) King. Mike married Mary Kolars and they had two sons, John and Stephen. They later divorced. On October 20, 1970, he married Betty L. Tusing and they had two children, Peggy and Jason. Betty preceded him in death in 1997. Mike served in the U.S. Army and then worked in civil service as a track vehicle mechanic, working on heavy equipment. He was a member of the American Legion and loved fishing. Dorine Kay (Nelson) Bergren, age 89 of Manhattan, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House. She was born on August 31, 1934, in Manhattan, the daughter of Frank Emil and Virginia Marian (Mayfield) Nelson. Dorine graduated from Riley Rural High School and Kansas State University with a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics. She married Ronald Lee Bergren on May 29, 1955, at the Riley Presbyterian Church, who survives. Dorine was a news reporter for the Marysville Advocate for many years. David Ray Suhling, age 84, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away June 5 at Via Christi Village in Manhattan after a brief illness. Dave was born June 20, 1939, to Elmer and Esther Suhling in Bunker Hill, Illinois. After graduating from high school, Dave trained to become an electrician, ultimately obtaining his Masters Electrician license, where he worked with the union in Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Dave also worked as a wheelwright at Silver Dollar City, a job he cherished, as he learned many of these skills from his grandfather. Larry Eugene Bowers, longtime Riley County resident, passed away on May 26, 2024, in Manhattan after a long hard-fought battle with Parkinson's. He was born on June 3, 1939, on a farm east of Munden, Kansas to Joye William Bowers and Lucille Sunshine (Verley) Bowers. He attended school in Munden, where he excelled in basketball and academics. Larry received his B.S. and M.S. degrees, followed by a Doctorate (Ed.D.) from Northern Illinois University in 1966. Thomas William "Tom" Nichols, age 86 of Leonardville, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024, at the Leonardville Nursing Home. He was born on April 26, 1937, the son of Ross Eugene and Evelyn Ann (Wertzberger) Nichols. On November 9, 1957, he married Sylda Ann Randall in Wamego, Kansas. Tom worked at KP&L as a gas service foreman for 37 years. After retirement, he was a driver for Little Apple Toyota Honda.
