LAWRENCE - Anthony J. Sanchez-Day, 46, of Lawrence, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born July 21, 1974 in Topeka, the son of Frederick Sanchez and Delores M. Pimentel-Day. He graduated from Grand River Academy in Ashtabula, Ohio and attended Haskell University for Liberal Arts. Anthony was a freelance writer. His writings included poetry and short stories. He was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. Anthony offered his creative writing skills volunteering with inmate programs at the Douglas County Jail. MAYETTA - Orville Rice, Jr., Ohn-Wah-Sah, 87, of Mayetta, died Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Hospital in Topeka. He was born October 18, 1932 at Mayetta, the son of Orville Rice, Sr. and Elsie Wahwassuck Rice. He was blue color and Thunder Clan. Orville was a member of the Native American Church and We-Ta-Se American Legion Post No. 410 at Mayetta. He loved to ride motorcycles and work on cars until his health declined. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. In his early years he had worked in construction and manual labor jobs. HOYT - Clara Dolores "Dee" Hrenchir, 88, of Hoyt, died Monday, August 10, 2020 at the Stormont-Vail Health Center in Topeka. She was born February 24, 1932 in Valley Falls, KS. She was the daughter of Edward and Mary (Kelly) Stein. Dee was raised on a farm in Valley Falls. The family later moved to Topeka, KS in 1936 where she attended Assumption Catholic Elementary School, and Hayden Catholic High School. She graduated from Hayden in 1951 and then worked for a time at a phone company. She married Donald E. Hrenchir on October 18, 1952 at Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka. He survives.
