The meeting was called to order at the family farm by Lyle Arthur Affeldt on October 23, 1936 with his parents, Arthur "Art" and Emma (Fitzthum) Affeldt in attendance. Other members of the committee included his two sisters Bernice and Lois. Lyle was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wykoff. Lyle attended school at Wykoff Public Schools, graduating in 1954. During his high school years, Lyle played football and basketball. Melvin W. Schmidt, age 99, formerly of Spring Valley, MN, died Friday, May 22, 2020, at Southview Acres in West St. Paul, MN. Melvin Schmidt was born October 13, 1920, in Jordan Twp., Fillmore County, MN, to Ernest and Alvina (Meisner) Schmidt. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wykoff. Melvin attended school through the 8th grade and entered the Army Air Corp. in August 1942. He served in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theaters. Sherman B. Stole, 90, of Ostrander, MN died on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at the Spring Valley Care Center in Spring Valley, MN. Sherman Borg Stole was born December 20, 1929 in Story City, IA to John and Anna E. (Sheldahl) Stole. He attended high school in Roland, IA. Following high school, Sherman enlisted in the U.S. Army. He worked as a machinist at Boing Aircraft in Wichita, KS and then moved to St. Paul, MN where he worked for 3M while also living in Ostrander, MN. Edith L. Serafine, age 81, of Harmony, MN, formerly of Paradise, CA, died on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI. Edith Leona Slafter was born on February 10, 1939 in Stewartville, MN to Melvin Slafter and Leona Smith. She enjoyed telling everyone that she was the oldest of 12. Edith left Minnesota in 1958 and went to Southern California. Edith met Joseph Sciolaro and later married in a double wedding with their good friends in Las Vegas. She loved her neighborhood friends and also had many memories redecorating each other's homes. She also went to cosmetology school and loved doing hair and nails for everyone.
