Mr. Anthony "Tony D Bear" Orrender passed away unexpectedly on September 21, 2023, at the age of 55, in Guston, KY. Tony was the son of the late Damon Harold and Alma Rae Orrender. He retired as a Solution Operator with American Synthetic Rubber Company in Louisville, KY, to enjoy the farm life with his family. Tony was dedicated to serving others and faithfully served on the Ekron, Meade County, Irvington and Flaherty Fire Departments throughout the years. Brother Phillip Morris Phillips, age 82, of Ekron, KY, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville, KY. Morris was born April 6, 1941, in Shelby County, KY, the son of Ruby Oakley and Edna Mae (Haggard) Phillips. Morris was a lifetime member of the Highway 60 Church of Christ and served as a minister of the Gospel for over 50 years. He owned and operated Phillips Barber Shop in Louisville, as well as Phillips Clocks and Crafts with his wife, Anna, for a number of years. Mr. Frank Joseph Jones, age 83, of Hardinsburg, KY, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at University of Louisville Hospital. Mr. Jones was born November 20, 1939, the son of Clifton Ruddell and Mary Frances (Bayer) Jones. Frank was involved in Law Enforcement for 55 years. He retired from the Kentucky State Police as a trooper in 1988. While with KSP, he was involved with the Special Response Team as a sniper. Frank also spent many years working with the Hardinsburg Police Department and the Breckinridge County Sheriff's Office. Mildred Alice (Cain) Griffee was born November 9, 1922 and departed this life on June 20, 2020 at Hospice of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green. She was the daughter of Stanley and Jennie Cain, both deceased. Others preceding her in death were her beloved husband of 67 years, Stuart Griffee; brothers, Stanley Thomas Cain and George James Cain; and sisters, Martha A. Cain Allen and Elizabeth Cain Penn. Mildred was a graduate of Meade County High School and was a member of their Alumni Association for over 60 years. Navy Seaman 1st Class Elmer Patterson Lawrence, age 25, of Red Cross, KY was born August 31, 1916, and sadly passed away on December 7, 1941, in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. On December 7, 1941, Lawrence was assigned to the battleship USS Oklahoma, which was moored at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, when the ship was attacked by Japanese aircraft. The USS Oklahoma sustained multiple torpedo hits, which caused it to quickly capsize. The attack on the ship resulted in the deaths of 429 crewman, including Lawrence.
