Ruby Curtis McSwain Ledbetter, 83, of Long Beach passed away on May 17, 2022 at Bedford Care Center in Petal. A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022 at 10 A.M. at Hillcrest Cemetery. Mrs. Ledbetter was a member of Main St. Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She enjoyed working for AT&T and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Ray S. (Speed) Lightsey, formerly of Gautier, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at his home in Ellisville. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Lightsey. Speed was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elsie Lightsey. He was a member of Vancleave Baptist Church. Speed excelled in baseball and football during his days at Sandersville High School and attended U.S.M. for two years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1949-1951. John Girard Guthrie, age 96, passed away Friday, February 4, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his family. Mr. Guthrie was born in Deerfield, Florida on September 6, 1925. He grew up in West Lafayette, Indiana where he was an All-State football guard at West Lafayette High School. He was a trained fighter pilot and World War II Veteran of what is now the United States Air Force. Mr. Guthrie attended Purdue University where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and completed a Bachelor of Science in Forestry in 1948. Herbert Oliver Kittrell, 86, passed away January 26, 2022. He was born in Beaumont, Mississippi on January 30, 1935. Herbert was a graduate of Beaumont High School and the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned double degrees in accounting and business administration. While still in college, Herbert got a job in New Orleans for the U.S. General Accounting Office where he was an internal auditor for the federal government. He held that position for 12 years. Afterwards, he became regional director of internal affairs for U.S. Customs. He retired from Customs in 1982.
