Edward Lee Jones, better known as "Eddie", age 59, passed away peacefully at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro the morning of July 9, 2022, after losing his battle with cancer. Eddie was born November 13, 1962, in Jefferson, Ashe County, NC, to the late Jerry and Ethel Jones. He is also preceded in death by many beloved aunts and uncles, grandparents, etc. He was a loving, jovial, special person; everyone who met and got to know Eddie adored him. Eddie mostly grew up in Liberty, NC before returning to the Jefferson area in the 1980s. He lived there until 2012 when he moved to Greensboro. Leroy Duane Kennell, age 80 of Jefferson, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at his home. Mr. Kennell was born on June 30, 1940 in Lansing, Michigan to Duane and May Hunt Kennell. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 41 years, Pat Joyce Kennell; and a brother, Danny Owen Kennell. Mr. Kennell was a deacon at Pomona Church of Christ before moving to Ashe County where he was faithful to West Jefferson Church of Christ. He was always there to help others. Mr. Kennell retired as the CFO of Schrader Automotive after 20 years. He then worked at United Chemi-Con (Sprague Electric) from 1986 to 2005, retiring as CFO. Dr. William Thomas Rice, age 97, died on November 15, 2019 following a brief illness. The son of the late Eugene James Rice and Laura Lanier Rice, he was born August 12, 1922 in Savannah, Georgia. His family moved to Asheville, NC in 1925 due to his mother's failing health. He graduated from Lee Edwards High School and joined the NC National Guard. When World War II was declared, he was accepted for flight training in the U.S. Army Air Corp and commissioned a 2nd Lt. in 1943 and promoted to Captain in 1945.
