Verna (Bonnie) Steadman Sherwood Verna Sherwood of surfside Beach, SC, was born April 2, 1926, in Moulton, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Steadman and Gladys Dawson Steadman. She graduated from the Business School of Communications in Mobile, Alabama. She relocated to Washington D.C. at the age of 18, where she was employed by the Census Bureau. Later, she worked the Naval Communications Center in Cheltenham, Maryland. In 1977, the family was transferred from Andrews AFB to Myrtle Beach AFB.
