She was born on March 27, 1926 in LaGrange, Georgia to the late Robert Edward Sharp and Clara India (Shubert) Sharp, who were parents of 10 children, (Montine being next to the youngest). She was preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters, and all of their spouses. By the time Montine was 13 years old, her parents passed away.
