After more than 10 years of gallantly battling prostate cancer, Cordell peacefully transitioned from this life on a Sunday morning, August 4, 2024, with family members at his side. Cordell was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Priscilla Walker, who passed away in 2014. Cordell was born in Chicago, IL on January 7, 1951, the son of Blanche Walker of Chicago, IL. Jim was born July 31,1932, in Palmayra, Arkansas, to Annie Mae and James E. Owen. He attended Pine Bluff High School (2 years all-state football), and in 1952 he received a Fulbright Scholarship to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Michael Cartwright; her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Chris Alejo, of Memphis, Tenn; and a grandson, Ryan Alejo, of Memphis, Tenn.
