Vernell Elaine Gruetzmacher Rayes of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2023. A native of Yorktown, Vernell was born to the late Herman Henry Gruetzmacher and Elvira Agnes Hillmer Gruetzmacher on January 27, 1937. On September 29, 1957, Vernell married Calvin M. Rayes at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Yorktown and so together, they celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary last year. Brother Samuel "Sam" Green, 79, of Runge, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2022. He was born to the union of the late Nathaniel Green and Marion Deola Smith Green, May 12, 1943, in Runge, Texas. He received his education at Runge High School. He enjoyed bringing love in everything that he was involved in. Sam accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at the Ecleto Morning Star Baptist Church. Sam was a faithful man of God. Georgie Mae Stoever Voelkel, 90, of Nordheim, passed away peacefully April 30, 2022. Georgie was born to the late Eddie and Alma Mueller Stoever on February 27th, 1932. She graduated from Nordheim ISD. Georgie married Lindberg (Lindy) Voelkel March 26, 1950, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Nordheim. She retired from the Nordheim ISD cafeteria after working there for 24 years. She continued cooking and baking and took much delight in doing so.
