William Earl "Bill" Smith, 96, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2023, at the Carolina Inn, with his wife by his side. A native son of North Carolina, whose ancestors were among the early settlers of North Carolina, Bill was born October 9, 1927, in Wayne County, NC, the son of Alice (Daniels) and Amaziah Smith. Preceding him in death were his parents and brother Edward Patrick Smith. Joyce Rose (Wooten) Holbrook gently passed away August 21st, 2023 at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Hospice Center in Wilmington, NC. She will be peacefully laid to rest during a private family graveside service at the Lafayette Memorial Park & Mausoleum in Fayetteville, NC. Ramon was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Lilly Yarborough; parents Mary Butler and Wilson Yarborough, Sr.; and brother Wilson Yarborough, Jr. He was educated in the Fayetteville City Schools and UNC Chapel Hill class of 1955. Born on July 14, 1929 in Meridian, MS, she was the daughter of the late Theophilus Leonard (T.L.) Stoudenmire and Stacy Iona Torrance Stoudenmire. Ruth graduated from Meridian High School in 1947 and moved to Washington, DC in 1949 to take a civil service job with the Navy Department. During this time, she also proudly served her country by joining the women's reserve branch of the Navy, known as WAVES.
