Bernice Schlecht, 86, Aberdeen, died Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen. Bernice Darlene Schmidtgall, daughter of Katie (Schilling) and William C. Schmidtgall, was born April 22, 1935 north of Lowry in Walworth County. This is where she was brought up and attended rural school. Bernice married Fred Schlecht at Bowdle on January 10, 1954. The couple first settled on the Schlecht farm SE of Java. In 1960 they relocated to Bowdle. Bernice kept busy with her six children and also worked at the Bowdle School, first in the kitchen and later as a custodian. She later took a job at the Bowdle Healthcare Center, first as a Nurse's Aide and then in the laundry...

Lorraine Katherine Olga Bader was born July 24, 1918 at home in Java. Her parents were Christian and Wilhelmina (Mauch) Bader. Her family moved to Bowdle when she was in the 2nd grade. While in high school she worked at Gross Brother's and following high school graduation in 1936 she worked at Braufman's General Merchandise store in Bowdle and enjoyed that very much. Ervin H. Gebhardt, 92, Eureka, died Monday, April 19, 2021 at the Avera Eureka Health Care Center. Ervin, son of Katherina (Oberlander) and John Gebhardt, was born June 28, 1928 and raised on the family farm in McPherson County 17 miles southeast of Eureka. He attended Rural School through 8th grade; later completing correspondence classes and Farmland Industries management courses. He married Lillian Oster at Hoffnungstahl Church on September 12, 1948. They settled on the family farm until 1965 and then moved into Eureka where Ervin worked at the Eureka Equity Exchange elevator, retiring as elevator manager in 1991.
