Gene Manning, 79, Stanford, KY, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023 at his home. He was the Husband of Elizabeth "Liz" Shelton Manning whom he married December 24, 1970. Born September 20, 1943 in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, the son of the late Delmar & Lula Singleton Manning. His passion was his family and church family. He had faithfully served as Deacon of Fairview Baptist Church. He was a honorably discharged veteran of the U. S. Air Force. He was a retired mechanic for Portman Equipment Company. Betty was born in Lincoln County, on September 8, 1936, to the late William Naylor and Viola (White) Denney. In 1952 she married Sam Saylor and from that union came three children. Betty had worked for Cowdens Manufacturing in Stanford for several years before becoming the receptionist for the Christian Appalachian Project. Ray was born in Waynesburg, Kentucky on September 11, 1936, a son of the late Sarah Elizabeth (Meade) and Mack Sims. Ray was a charter member of the Waynesburg, KY area rescue squad, lifelong farmer, and a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
