Phillip John Pernot, age 95, of Janesville passed away at Cedar Crest on Saturday, January 18, 2025. He was born on April 26, 1929, and grew up on a farm near Brooklyn, WI. He was the son of Davis and Alice (Reider) Pernot. He attended a one room school near Brooklyn and graduated from Brooklyn High School. Phillip was employed by the City of Janesville Street Department and later by the Water Department for over 30 years. He was also well known for owning and operating Phil's Sewer Cleaning for many years, continuing to operate the business into his 80's. Peter J. Blija died peacefully at home on January 5, 2025 at the age of 59. He was born on December 21, 1965, to John and Anita (Kopins) Blija in Tomah, WI. After high school, Pete studied at UW-Eau Claire and ultimately earned an Associate Degree in Electronics Technology from Chippewa Valley Technical College. This led him into the field of Electrical Design and a 25 year career as an Associate Engineer with Generac Power Systems, Inc. While at UW- Eau Claire, Pete met his wife, Katie (Leathem). Carol Jean (Brierton) Marklein of Janesville passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 26, 2024. Carol was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend who greeted everyone with a big smile and open heart. She was the life of any party and the spark of any conversation with her curiosity, keen intellect, quick wit, and love of drama and debate. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing golf and cards, and doing her daily crossword puzzles. She lived a full life of 88 years and will be missed by many. Mike was 55 and passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024 at St Mary's Hospital, Madison. Mike was born on July 9, 1969, to Gerald and Julie (Kilmer) Sullivan in Janesville, Wi. Mike graduated from Craig High School in 1987, briefly attended the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and moved to Madison in 1993. She was born on April 15, 1935, to Alton Maurice and Dorothy (Decker) Hagen and was later adopted by Dr. Thomas and Elsie Pluess. Sonja's schooling included Edgerton High School, a bachelor's degree from Beloit College where she was a Tallman Scholar and a master's degree from Western State College, CO. Janet Mary Hughes, age 71, of Janesville, WI passed away at her home on December 20, 2024. She was born on August 21, 1953, in Richland Center, WI, the daughter of Gordon and Ruby (Chroninger) Peterson. She grew up in the Richland Center area and graduated from Kickapoo High School. Bernice Elizabeth Carwardine, age 95, of Janesville, WI passed away on December 11, 2024, at SSM Health St. Mary's Janesville Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 2, 1929, in Milton, the daughter of John M. and Julia (Pierce) Mullen. Bernice grew up on the family farm near Milton and graduated from Milton Union High School in 1946. Bernice married William C. Carwardine on June 19, 1954. They had two sons, Kurt and Bernard. Bernice was employed by Parker Pen Company and retired from Burdick Corporation. Richard (Dick) Clayton Stockwell, age 77, of Janesville, WI, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born on June 11, 1947, he was the beloved son of Clayton and Irene (Dixon) Stockwell. Dick's roots in Janesville ran deep, where he graduated from Janesville Senior High School, before pursuing higher education at Lawrence University. John Stark of Janesville, age 79, passed away on November 29, 2024 at home, with his wife and daughter by his side. John was born on May 11, 1945 to Joseph and Theresa Stark in Wausau, WI. He was the youngest of nine children. John grew up in Mosinee, WI and enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. He served in the Army Reserve for six years.
