Pamela Sue McBrayer, 70, of Ripley passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at her home. She was born July 26, 1952 in South Charleston, the only child of Elnora Pauley Salisbury and the late Paul D. Salisbury. Pam was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also an animal lover and volunteered with adult literacy programs throughout Jackson County. Pam attended church at the Ripley Baptist Temple. Joyce (Neal) Harrison, 81, passed on Monday, January 30th, surrounded by loved ones. Naomi Joyce Neal was born December 12, 1941, in Charleston, West Virginia, to Raymond and Lenora Rucker Neal. She met her husband, James Harrison, in 1958. Years later, about their first meeting, James said, "We shook hands, and I'm still holding on." They married in 1959 and lived in Sissonville. They eventually built a home on Harrison Ridge in Goldtown, where Joyce still lived. In 1975, they started the Hillbreed Family Band with their four children and performed at bluegrass festivals and fundraisers all over the region. He was born July 22nd, 1942 in Putney, WV to the late William and Helen Mack and graduated from DuPont High School in 1960. Larry was a US Army veteran, honorably serving from 1961 to 1964, including a tour in Italy as a member of a missile unit. After his time in the service, he became a coal miner and retired from Peabody Coal with over 20 years in the mines.
