Walter "Eric" Pence, age 69, of Cleveland, NC, passed away April 3, 2023 after a long journey with Parkinson's Disease. The son of Roy Pence and Lelia Reavis Pence, Eric was born in Salisbury at Rowan Regional Hospital on February 17, 1954. Eric graduated from West Rowan High School in 1972 and from NC State University in 1976 and again in 1979 with degrees in wildlife biology and animal sciences. Eric was a member of Old Providence Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. After graduation from college, Eric returned to take over the family farm. Barbara Jean Beam Karriker, 82, of Mooresville, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Novant Health - Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House. Born in Rowan County on June 10, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Luther Taylor Beam and Nora Bernice Dagenhart Beam. In addition to her parents, Barbara was also preceded in death by one brother, Donald Beam and one sister, Betty Beam Cartner. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She dedicated her life to raising children, operating her in-home daycare for many years. Mary Susan Haskins Knox, "Sue", 88, of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2021 at her residence. Born in Randolph County on March 20, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John Graham Haskins and Mary Louis Kemp Haskins. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, David C. Knox in 1997 and her sister, Theresa Summers. Sue spent 34 years in education, first beginning as a teacher and later retiring as a Media Specialist. She served in Rowan, Iredell and Davie Counties.
