Brenda Sue Barnett, 79, of Spencer, W.Va., formerly of Elkview, W.Va., died Saturday, August 10, 2024, at home, after an extended illness. She was born September 23, 1944, in Charleston, W.Va., the daughter of the late Clifton Franklin and Sylvia Mae Pauley Lanham. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Smith, Jean Bess, Janet Conley, Jetty Clay and Bonnie Balser; brothers, Clifton Lanham and Harry Lanham. Jayden Taylor "Dayton" Summers, 17, of Walton, passed away, Thursday, July 25, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by family, after months of battling cancer. He was born August 9, 2006, at Charleston, the son of LaHoma C. Burdette Summers of Walton and the late Jeremy T. Summers. Dayton was in the Roane County High School graduating Class of 2024. He enjoyed racing motorcycles, playing video games and listening to all types of music. Dayton was fun loving and helpful to everyone. He never knew a stranger. Larry K. Berkhouse, 75, of Left Hand, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2024, at Thomas Hospital, South Charleston. He was born January 31, 1949, at Spencer, the son of the late Rome and Hazel Dye Berkhouse. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Jerry, Paul, Charles, Bobby, Bill, Garland and Gene Berkhouse; sister, Sue Burns. Larry served in the United States Army from 1968-1970. He retired in 2009 from Hobet Coal Company with 30 years of service. Larry also worked for Pace Pipeline and several coal companies. Gary C. Russell, 67, of Charleston, W.Va., died Saturday, July 13, 2024, at his home from natural causes. He was born September 18, 1956, the son of the late Robert C. Russell, II. Left behind to cherish his memory are his mother, Loretta Ash Russell; brother, Gregory Russell; daughter, Megan Russell; three grandchildren, Brayden, Liam and Layla; nieces and nephew, Carletta, Dalton and April. Gary was the grandson of the late Glennis and Dessie Ash; and Robert C. Russell and Dessie Martin. He enjoyed being a radio broadcaster and was a DJ at WQBE 97.5 FM, Charleston.
