Ruth's journey through life was marked by her devotion to her family, her passion for teaching, and her love for traveling the world and experiencing different cultures. Karon transitioned peacefully at home after a lengthy period of being afflicted with frontal temporal dementia (FTD). Karon gracefully endured her condition, never letting it take her joy. She was affectionately known by family and friends as "Kaye." She grew up in Houston, Texas surrounded by a loving family and friends. Born on March 16, 1946, in Maringouin, La., to Edith and Gilbert Ventress Sr., she was the eldest of 10. Gloria earned a B.S. in Foods and Nutrition from Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. After college, she met and married her husband, Burney Lawrence Cooper Jr. in Washington, D.C. In 1974, Houston became their home.
