Bobby was born in Rowan County on August 11, 1930, to the late Brown Alexander and Alice Aldridge Foil. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers: Tom Foil, Ed Foil, and Irv Foil and two sisters: Alice "Sister" Page and Catherine Foil. Edwina Hall Knipling Lake, the oldest of five children, was born to Edward Fred Knipling and Phoebe Hall Knipling on July 15, 1936 in Valdosta, Georgia where her father was an entomologist at a USDA field station. From there it was on to Texas, Oregon, and Florida before moving to Arlington, Virginia after World War Il.
