Shirley Ann Blackwell Vaughn (age 95) of Hampton, Virginia went home to be with the Lord quietly in her sleep Tuesday, February 11, 2026. She was born Shirley Ann Durham, on June 14, 1930, to James Albert Durham and Edith (Caldwell) Durham of Greenville, South Carolina. At approximately age 4, her name changed to Shirley Ann Blackwell after Edith's remarriage to Boyce Franklin Blackwell. Shirley attended Greenville County schools and graduated from Parker High School. She married on June 10, 1950. Richard Irving Brumback of Newport News, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. To many, he was better known as "Dick" or "Deadeye". Dick was born 16 August 1931 to Fred Irving Brumback and Genevieve Bean Brumback in Winchester, Virginia. He grew up in Winchester and was a graduate of the well-known Handley High School. He, at the reluctance of his family, relocated to Newport News to attend the Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) Apprentice School. Elizabeth Easter Morris of Hampton, Virginia left this world Thursday, November 10, 2022, at the age of 84. She was beloved by her family and countless friends who will miss her dearly. Barbara E. Pigford, 91, passed peacefully on March 29, 2022, in Newport News, Virginia. Barbara was the daughter of the late Paul and Marjorie Ennis, born and raised in Grand Junction, Colorado. She spent her childhood summers at the homestead of her grandparents in the high mountains of Colorado and had many great stories to tell about her pioneer ancestors. Barbara graduated from high school with honors, receiving a scholarship to attend the University of Northern Colorado. She had decided to follow in her mother's footsteps and become a teacher. Mel Holjes, 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle passed away on December 26, 2021, in Newport News, Virginia. Mel was born on April 6, 1940, in Winston Salem, N.C. He grew up in Guilford College, North Carolina near Greensboro. Mel was the quarterback on his high school football team. Karen Kay Pearce, 77, died June 22, 2020, at Harmony on the Peninsula in Yorktown, VA, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Kay grew up in Newport News and graduated from Newport News High School in 1960. She went on to receive both her Bachelor and Master of Arts Degrees from Madison College (now JMU).
