Milton was born on April 5, 1937 in Fergus Falls MN, where he grew up and graduated high school in 1956 after winning numerous varsity letters in sports. Milt graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 1960 with a bachelor's degree and later completed a master's degree at St Cloud State University.
