A resident of Grand Junction, Colorado for nearly six decades, Mary Day was a bright and enduring presence in the community. Her legacy is one of kindness, grace, and love. Bill attended Mesa State College and soon began his career in management for Taco Bell restaurants in Grand Junction and California. He continued in management with Grand Junction's Interiors Etc., and Burke Construction. Born in 1947, she carved a path as a distinguished physician and gynecologist, setting an example for women entering the world of medicine. Vanna was not only dedicated to her profession but also to the thrill of adventure. She had a deep love for mountain climbing and made it her mission to conquer the Colorado 14ers. Her adventurous spirit took her to 15 countries and the heights of Mount Everest as well. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Virgil and Libby Conkle and her husband of 50 years, W.T. (Bill) Markowski She is survived by her three children; Elizabeth Pettit (Terry); Barbara Morgan; David Markowski; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandson; Sisters Iris Trivitt and Karen Ferguson and numerous nieces and nephews. He went to be with the Lord surrounded by family and friends, about a month after suffering a severe brain trauma. Kenneth LeOtis Reust was born June 26, 1933, to Roy and Eva Beatty Reust in Rifle, Colorado. The family moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, in 1936. Ken spent his school years in local schools, graduating from Central High School in 1951, attending Mesa Junior College in Grand Junction, and then attended college in Boulder. He joined the National Guard in 1952. For employment, he worked for Huckaby's grocery store at 15 and a half years old, AEC and made deliveries for Wonder Bread and Clover Club Potato Chips. Darlene Mae Lewis passed away peacefully, age 98, at her home on February 13, 2025. She was born in a sod house at Beecher Island, Colorado, to George and Hazel Strangways on Dec 19, 1926. After attending country schools, she graduated from Wray High School in 1945. In 1946, Darlene ventured to Denver with two friends and found employment as an accounts payable clerk with Morey Mercantile. Her picture, in the interest of selling cookbooks for her employer, appeared in the Denver newspapers. Clara Mae Ward, 97, passed away peacefully at Mantey Heights Care Center surrounded by family. She was born November 7, 1927, to William and Annabelle Dawson Ford in Pueblo, Colorado. She married Joe Ward on January 30, 1943, in Collbran. Six children were born into this union, Joe, Bob, Vel, Edie, Ruth, and Sue. Clara Mae was the dietary manager for Plateau Valley School and Plateau Valley Nursing Home for many years. Clara Mae is survived by her children, Joe Ward, Vel Dorau, Edie Watson, and Sue Dillon; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Vernie Grounds Rathbone passed away on February 7, 2025. She was born in Steamboat Springs in 1940. Vernie is survived by her sister, Lois Dunn; her daughter, Lynda; son, Lyle; son-in-law, Gary; and her grandchildren. As a longtime resident of Grand Junction, Vernie's passion for her community was expressed in her church involvement, teaching water aerobics, and volunteering.
