Bill was born to James Euell and Gracie Cosby Walls on April 18, 1931, in Nocona, TX. As he grew up, Bill worked after school, pumping water for cows, picking eggs and feeding chickens, stacking hay in the barn, and more. While in school at Prairie Valley High, wandering across the gym, someone threw him a basketball and encouraged him to shoot the ball into the basket. He had never held a basketball before.
