Joanne graduated from Leverett's Chapel High School, attended Kilgore Junior College where she was a Rangerette, and later in life, graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler with a bachelor's degree in education. She loved teaching at Pine Tree ISD and at Longview ISD and never lost that love of education. Joanne was the devoted wife of a Baptist minister, James A. David Ray DeWitt of Odessa and more recently Kingwood, Texas went home to be with the Lord on March 23, 2023. He was born in Strawn, Texas on March 16, 1944, to Ray and Keith Blackney DeWitt. David grew up in Goldsmith and worked on the Flag ranch with Babe Nevens, and had plenty of stories of ranching like they did in the old west. When he was sixteen and Mary was fourteen, they eloped to Mexico and got married. Nine days later they got married with the "approval" of their parents in Odessa.
