Born in Norwich, NY to the late Charles and Rosemary Knapp, Kathleen's life was marked by devotion to her husband and children. She found joy in gardening and community service. Kathleen learned to fly and achieved her solo flight in July 1980. Kathleen volunteered with the American Red Cross Virginia Region and Lake Christian Ministries of Smith Mountain Lake.
